(Re)VISIONS of a Copenhagen Halloween

(Re)VISIONS of a Copenhagen Halloween

It’s 5 more days ’til Christmas and I’m going to be a rebel and talk about Halloween!

Just a couple of months ago, we visited Tivoli Gardens right on the day they opened up with their Halloween theme.

According to my trusty friends out at Wikipedia, “Tivoli Gardens (or simply Tivoli) is a famous amusement park and pleasure garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. The park opened on August 15, 1843 and is the second oldest amusement park in the world, after Dyrehavsbakken in nearby Klampenborg“.

It was created in the early 1800’s to serve as a distraction for the people rather than thinking about politics.

An interesting note, “….Walt Disney was so impressed with the Danish amusement park, he immediately decided Disneyland should try to emulate its happy and unbuttoned air of relaxed fun“.

Check out Tivoli’s wonderful website and see what’s going on in time for the Christmas season. So festive! I love it!

Upon entering, we considered ourselves lucky as the crowd was not yet maddening and the weather was just perfect. Click on an image to see the larger version….

Although there were chances of rain, Mother Nature allowed us to enjoy the crisp and cold weather Copenhagen had to offer. Perfect for hot chocolate or warm, freshly-made crepes or yummy warm donuts…

9We came at the perfect time during the late afternoon as we were able to witness the amusement park transform from day to night…

As a tourist, Tivoli is a must-see! The fact that they have been sticking to the original style of the past  preserves its magical charm. I can’t tell you how much I adore that marvelous and enchanting wonderland feel that you can only get from the old-school amusement parks. Like their exquisite and dazzling carousel…. I LOVE!

Candy and ice-cream stores, the games, even old-school bumper cars…

“The park is best known for its wooden roller coaster, Rutschebanen, or as some people call it, Bjergbanen (the Mountain Coaster), built in 1914. It is one of world’s oldest wooden roller coasters that is still operating today. An operator controls the ride by braking down the hills so it won’t gain too much speed. It is an ACE Coaster Classic.” WOW!!!

If you’re a fan of liquorice like me, I love this brand…

With an adorable lady behind the counter….

Which reminds me, I need one of those skeleton jumpsuits! Perfect to hide the weight I’ll be gaining from eating all that candy.

They also have an aquarium which apparently is Europe’s longest saltwater aquarium. And I love how they were able to stick with the Halloween theme here…

And check out the size of that skull….

And of course there’s some shopping. The fashion stylist in me scanned the fun fashion items and even the amusing home accessories…

And this is what you call SHEEP & CHIC!….

It’s not just a kiddie amusement park, adults come here as well for the ambiance, the food and drinks! They even have a micro-brewery and several fabulous restaurants….

So, when in Copenhagen, bring the entire family to Tivoli and I guarantee you will all have a WHALE of a time!
