…. Doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas. News of Patricia Fields hosting the Las Vegas unit of “Fashion’s Night Out 2012” got out quicker than a lightning bolt and I am more than happy to share insights about the event and my adoration for one of my favorite fashion personalities.

Collaborating with Anna Sales, an old high school friend who is based in Vegas, we present you this latest Global Glare entry. I am absolutely thrilled that she has provided photographs for us during the Fashion’s Night Out event…..
Raven-haired Patricia Fields is known for her crazy, eccentric style both in her personal fashion as well as her work as a fashion designer, fashion stylist and Academy Award-nominated and Emmy Award-winning costume designer. Her work is stamped in almost every fashion-based television series and film.
In most recent years, her fashion footprints (whether it be fashion designing, fashion styling or costume designing) has been seen in tv series “Ugly Betty” and feature films “The Devil Wears Prada” and “Confessions of a Shopaholic”. But, who wouldn’t remember “Sex and the City” the tv series (which then paved the way for the film series) for its pioneering fashion?
Her respected work has allowed her to dictate trends in the fashion industry. So, it was a no-brainer for this year’s Fashion’s Night Out in Vegas to have Patricia Fields as their host and to discuss what she feels would be the upcoming fall trends….
Fashion styling was all done, of course, by Patricia Fields….
According to Anna, “One of the things that stuck to me is when she said to always remember that when you think things do not match, Just put them together and be surprised on how fabulous they turn out to be. *Picture Carrie Bradshaw*“.
And with that we segue to the many wonderful Carrie Bradshaw outfits composed of mixed prints and textures either designed or formulated by Patricia Fields. Sarah Jessica Parker as we all know plays Carrie Bradshaw in the hit series Sex and the City….
I really love it when stylists and fashion lovers with their everyday wardrobe create an interesting mix with high and low items (in terms of price points). It’s all about how you wear it, mixing branded items with bargain bin discounts, mass-produced or one’s unique, homemade creation. Here’s an extremely interesting story of how Patricia Fields and Sarah Jessica Parker convinced Sex and the City producer, Darren Starr, to feature a $5 bargain-bin find (the infamous tutu!) instead of a designer item for the show’s opening credits…. Sex and the City stylist reveals she shunned designers for the bargain bin.
Anna also observed that “She used a lot of ‘daddy socks’ as she called them, with a lot of the outfits...”
The “Daddy socks” is actually a classic Patricia Fields look as seen here….
Always innovative and finding multiple ways to use a piece, Anna mentioned that “This was a skirt that Patricia put on her head as a head piece.”….
Prior to her work as a fashion stylist and costume designer, Fields was known for her fashion boutique. Opened back in 1966 when she was just 24 years old (a fresh Liberal Arts graduate from NYU) along 8th Street in New York, this boutique became a fashion center for the hip, eccentric and out-of-this-world. The current address is now 302 Bowery Street, New York.
In addition to her brand, boutique (with her own apparel and accessories line) and tv and film jobs, her work is practically seen everywhere and chances are you may have come across some of them. She has collaborated with numerous brands such as Candies, Britain’s Marks & Spencer, Japan’s Smacky Glam, among many others, including Barbie and Diet Coke (2009)!
Her longevity in fashion is something to commend and yet this style visionary will never stop and go out of style. She has achieved so much and will definitely achieve so much more. Anna fondly states “She seemed kind and humble as she introduced all the models that came out that she helped styled….”
“…. It was a great evening. And I couldn’t believe I was steps away from her!“
Lucky lady, Anna!

Yes, yes Kathy!!! It’s all about individuality! And just like you, I hope to be as hip and as cool as Patricia Fields as I get older! I also look up to Betsey Johnson and Ann Dexter-Jones (rock n’roll jewelry designer, Reiki master and mom of designer Charlotte Ronson and the rest of the talented Ronson sibs) for looking fantastic and still fashion-forward for their age as well! Let’s keep tabs on each other, Kathy, as we further “mature”! Haha!
