Can I just tell you about this amazing show I saw last week? Carlos Celdran’s Livin’ La Vida Imelda at the Silverlens Gallery.
Most people know Carlos from his wonderful walking tours of Manila, Walk This Way, and for the very recent and shocking (and most unfair) verdict of his ‘Damaso act’, but that’s another story I don’t need to tell.
Actually this show is one of his walking tours, but now set indoors with some interesting wall art, an assortment of visual aids, clever props and an amazing cast!
According to their Silverlens website, Livin’ La Vida Imelda is a “… gossipy performance framed by the biography of the Philippine’s flamboyant former first lady Imelda Marcos and set to disco music.”
Man, with Imelda Marcos, gossip and disco music in mind, how could I NOT go?!?!? I’m there!!!
And now I’m HERE! Yes!
Can you guess all these Philippine cultural landmarks on the walls?
Ooooh, paparazzi shot! Best buddy, Rachel….
Here she is again, the Silverlens duo, Rachel and Isa during the gallery’s participation in early February’s Art Fair Philippines…..
And some of the amazing art work I saw, by the way, at this fair that showcased contemporary Filipino art-
Silverlens taking it up a notch again by hosting Carlos’ amazing performance….
What does this photo from the projector have to do with anything?
You’ll see…. If you go watch the show! Juicy!!! 😉
This is how the late former President, Ferdinand Marcos, met his wife, Imelda…. Was it on the dance floor? Hmmmmm, I wonder…..
And then, they got married.
And lived happily ever after?
Apparently, Marcos was 5’5″ and Imelda is statuesque at 5’8″. Which would then explain his Elvis-styled pompadour. You know, whatever help he could get for that much needed height.
The terno and butterfly sleeves were of course made famous worldwide by Imelda Marcos.
Woo-hoo! Here we go now!….
Yes, a shiny disco ball!!! Any place with a disco ball, I’m there!
Our dear friend, Jenny, accepting the invitation to hit the dance floor. Check it out!
It’s obvious that she loves the nightlife, she’s got to boogie….
Shake your groove thing, shake your groove thing, yeah, yeah….Show ’em how we do it now….
Movin’ and groovin’ and livin’ la vida Imelda!
People can say whatever they want to say about Imelda. Call her crazy, call her ruthless but I love her. I admire her for her guts and confidence, her over-the-top style and personality… But that’s it.
BRAVO!!!!!!! A performance piece I would definitely see again! Kudos to Carlos Celdran and his brilliant and comedic cast!!
I have until March 16th to catch it once more. Here are the remaining dates-
